no no no! you people have it all wrong....let me try to restate what i said in a way that perhaps is easier to understand....

i stated that everyone at some point reaches the same position ek3 is in. when one has reached that point, there are basically two options:

1. stay in the same situation and attempt to get back to your 'normal' way of life by viewing it as an aberration. as i said in my first post, this stems from a belief in a unchanging self (i.e. the self you are used to). from this belief, anything that makes you feel like changing lifestyles is given a label such as mid-life crisis, teenage rebellion, etc; because it is different, it must be some mental problem to be overcome so that you may return to your regularly scheduled programming so to speak. this was not meant to be glorifying, i think it is the wrong choice. i brought my dad up because he is a good example of a person that views anything 'unusual' as being a problem that must be overcome.

2. the second option is to actually change. i said that moving away would make things easier because you would be in a new situation with no connections. the point i was trying to make is that you don't have to move away, you can change right here. it is more difficult, as i said, but changing your routine (i.e. get a new job, change majors, or even drop out of school) would make a big difference. you may lose some friends, but you would do that by moving too. i only wanted to point out that there could be change here too because the conversation was completely one sided (meaning, leaving was the only thing being discussed as an option for change). the only thing to lose or gain (in this situation and life in general) is experience. not just the number of experiences, but also the quality.

i hope this has clarified my position.

p.s.
i dont care what you think, i like the name
it fits well with this forum.

p.s.s.
to say that someone is black is to be politically incorrect. being politically incorrect makes me nervous....big brother is everywhere....reading everything....watching everyone....right now....
